The Yew Cottage is complete and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out! It’s been a year since we purchased the property and stood among a bramble filled lot planning with Comox Builders dreaming of what the Yew Cottage could be. It has been a year filled with so much planning, a thousand decisions, and as many hours (I’ll do a separate blog on the build journey and specifics really soon) but the doors are officially open.
The motivation for creating this beautiful space for couples and families to enjoy their vacations came first and foremost from the absolute love we have for this neighborhood. It really is the pacific northwest epitomized. The Yew Cottage is nestled in the locally-desirable neighborhood of Seal Bay. Surrounded by the beautiful West Coast views and a short walk away from stunning trails winding through endless forests and down to the seaside. Within 30 minutes from the Yew Cottage you can visit both ocean shores and mountain tops! Guaranteed to see eagles nesting in the trees in front of the kitchen window and hear curious seals barking to each other from the water. This neighbourhood brings us so much joy it’s hard to even put it into words, it simply must be experienced!
We then wanted to build a cottage worthy of this beautiful lot overlooking the salish sea. A little beach house retreat for families and couples to experience our beautiful Comox Valley and have a little place to call home to go back to. To make new memories with their families and friends. A place to build memories and feel pampered. I’ve never designed a house from the ground up and I must say I LOVED it! I’ve had many people describe it as ‘very Emily’ and to me that is a very sweet compliment.
All the details in the cottage were poured over for hours and days. I wanted the space to feel charming and cozy but airy and light at the same time. I wanted you to be able to really feel at home and have a full sized kitchen with all the amenities so you could tap into your inner chef. I chose Canada’s best luxury hybrid mattress the Logan and Cove King so you’d have the best sleeps of your life and wake up ready for your vacation adventures! And I chose high end finishings, lighting, and hardware, so you’d feel like you were at a luxury boutique hotel. Upon your arrival you’ll also find free range eggs from my own feathered babies and one of my very own flower bouquets (plus a few local goodies) waiting for you.
I truly hope you book a stay at the Yew Cottage and let us treat you to the best Vancouver Island experience out there!

BUT!
Before my first guests arrived I knew I wanted to toast to the cottage and all the work that was put into it. Enjoy her for an evening with my best girls! We have had such a dark and dreary spring, I wasn’t sure we’d get a nice evening but the skies cleared and we had a gorgeous evening light to toast to her and enjoy snacks and wine at the cottage! That afternoon me and my friend Karin styled the cottage so beautifully with some of her new products from Shoppe Kindred to make the evening that much more special!
My other friend Jodi from Jam & Co. Picnics provided the absolute most decadent and gorgeous charcuteries. Cheeses, meats, jams, nuts, fruits and veggies adorned the 2 tiered platters and it was as tasty as it was beautiful. The perfect snack to be paired with my favourite Gray Monk Pinot Gris.
With our glasses and plates full the Yew Cottage received her first toast, her first experience, and it was the perfect evening to celebrate the year of planning and execution.
I am so excited to invite others into this space to enjoy and relax. Thank you for being on this journey with me, and cheering me on the whole time 🙂
